The Range Rules & Regulations
Ride smart. Ride kind. Ride The Range.
The Range isn’t just a gravel ride — it’s a challenge of endurance, character, and respect. Across hundreds of kilometres of Alberta’s backroads, you’ll be riding through working ranchland, native grasslands, and open, unpredictable terrain. These rules are in place to protect you, your fellow riders, the land, and the communities that welcome us.
1. Eligibility
Riders must be in good physical health and experienced in gravel or endurance cycling.
All participants should be prepared for remote, self-supported riding.
Minimum age: 12 years old as of event day. Riders under 18 must have a guardian’s consent.
2. Categories
Choose from four distances:
Rodeo, Rustler, Classic Range, and Frontier.
Solo Rider Categories (Male, Female, Non-Binary):
Open (Under 50)
50+
E-Bike (Non-Competitive)
Age is calculated as of the first day of the event.
Categories cannot be changed after the event starts.
3. Withdrawals & Rider Accountability
If you need to withdraw: Notify a race official at a checkpoint, the finish line, the race office, or a medical team member. Do not rely on another rider to relay your withdrawal — this may trigger a search & rescue effort at your expense. Withdrawn riders will be transported to the finish line when possible.
4. Environmental Stewardship
We ride through sensitive ecosystems and privately-owned ranchlands. Respect is non-negotiable.
No littering – this includes gels, wrappers, tubes, or anything else.
• No open fires.
• Yield to wildlife.
• Follow all signage, closures, or reroutes.
Penalties for littering or land disrespect:
1st offense: 2-hour time penalty
2nd offense: Disqualification
Organizers reserve the right to reroute, pause, or cancel stages due to weather, fire, wildlife activity, or landowner concerns. No refunds will be issued for environmental-related changes.
